In History, we have been learning about the story of the Trojan Horse and we have been writing diary entries as if we were a Trojan Warrior. In Science, we have been exploring classification. We have made our own classification keys using sweets and animals. Well done Year 6 - Keep up the brilliant work!

Investigating the effects of exercise on our bodies

In Science this week, we have been investigating the effects of exercise on our bodies. First, we had to had to understand the different parts of the heart and their functions. We then measured our resting pulse rates before measuring how our heart rate (BPM) changed after a variety of exercises: star jumps, street dance, throwing and catching and sit ups. Take a look at our photos.

Exploring Climate Change

In Geography this half term, we are exploring climate change by answering our big question " How is climate change affecting the world?". In Geography this week, we have been learning about global warming and have found out that there is a correlation between rising heatwaves and bushfires. We wrote a persuasive letter encouraging insurance companies to reduce their premium for the victims of bushfires. Take a look at some of our brilliant writing!

Shang Dynasty

Today we were visited by a Shang Emperor as part of our History topic on the Shang Dynasty. We found out lots of information about what life was like for both the noblemen and peasants during the Shang era. We had to excavate for oracle bones and then had to decipher the encryptions on them. We finished by learning the ancient, Chinese game "Go".
Take a look at our photographs.

 Y6 First week back

What a fantastic start we have had to Year 6! The children have been working hard to show they are Riverside Ready. This week In Literacy, we have began to explore the story of Robin Hood and created mind maps to look more closely at the characters and setting. In RE, we thought about commitment and how we show commitment. In Science, we created a time line to show how living things have changed over time. Finally in History, we began to learn about the Shang Dynasty and wrote an explanation about a pile of 'dragon bones', which were found by a man named Wang Yirong What a busy week! Keep checking back for regular learning updates!
